Hi, I'm Bri!
I'd love to know more about you and your health, but since you're reading up on me, I'll indulge your curiousity!
My favourite breakfast is protein waffles (see recipe HERE). My favourite animal is my sheltie-lab-collie pup Lexi (see a blog post on pups HERE). Also, I love to cook and bake from scratch, but my true aspirations are realized when I am guiding people to better health!
My own health journey is not what gives me credibility and "nutrition expert" status, but since we're getting to know each other, I don't see why I shouldn't share.
I grew up with an interest in food as an art and in cooking and baking, setting up in-home pretend restaurants for my parents and indulging in both my grandmas' recipes and cooking. While our family ate quite a varied diet, I learned through my own research that we could be doing better. With the pressures of competitive dance and body image issues, I also struggled for a short time with restrictive and unsustainable dieting behaviours. Later, I stumbled upon the concept of plant-based eating, and gave up meat when I was 19 for ethical, environmental, and nutritional reasons. Later on I drastically reduced the dairy and eggs in my diet, and noticed improvements in my skin and digestion. Committing to being fully plant-based at the beginning of 2019, I haven't looked back! Throughout this time, my interest in food and knack for getting people around me to make healthier choices led me to pursue a career in dietetics. I received my Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and gained my Registered Dietitian Certification in 2013, then developed my own private practice from the ground up.
While veganism is not something I enforce, my personal and professional research has led me to derive the opinion that eating little to no animal products is one of the easiest ways we can protect our earth and our bodies. I'm happy to report that many of my clients have improved their health and well-being on their own terms through gentle guidance toward a diet that includes more plant-based foods!
