The healthiest weight loss plan is one that sustains a healthy weight over the span of your life. Here are some tips for a healthy approach to weight loss: Set up your surroundings for success. Ensure that your home and workplace are helping, not hindering your success. Make sure you have the physical tools available to create healthy meals. If you can, remove or avoid any trigger to your previous unhealthy behaviours. Develop your food skills and knowledge. Invest time and effort into learning about healthy foods and cooking methods. Take a healthy cooking class, invest in some cookbooks, search for online recipes, or consider counselling from a Registered Dietitian. Conquer emotional eating. Be aware of when your body craves food beyond just physical hunger; you may notice a change in appetite during times of intense emotion or stress. You may also find that you overeat in response to routine, availability of food, or boredom. Awareness is the first step to conquer cravings and change your unhealthy environment. Get into goal setting. Research shows that people who write down their goals are more likely to achieve them. Be specific and realistic! Select an accountability partner. Whether it be a Registered Dietitian or your significant other, share your goals with at least one other person who will support you in achieving them.
